Gas Logs Advantages and Safety Tips

Gas Logs or Natural Wood?

It’s always a pleasure and a joy to sit in front of a fire, chatting with friends and family, sharing stories, and enjoying the time together. The fire gives you a feeling of warmth and happiness. The ambiance and soothing effect of a beautiful fire welcomes calmness, conversation, and comfort. Doesn’t it?

But what happens when the final flickers of the flames begin to dissipate? If you have no more wood, the flame will peter out, disrupting the serenity in the room. Wanna keep the peace going? Consider a set of gas logs!

There are plenty of advantages to gas logs over a wood burning fire!

Convenient to Use

With gas logs, you need not worry out about the hassles that come with burning wood. If you have a functioning wood-burning fireplace and access to propane or natural gas, then you can easily create an environment that is warm enough to give comfort to your family. Generally, gas logs are manufactured with the use of non-combustible ceramic material and refractory cement, so, you won’t have to deal with the mess of natural firewood.

Igniting the fire is a simple as a press of a button or a flip of a switch and it burns as long as you choose.

Safety Tips of Gas Logs

Safety

Real logs roll, sparks fly, chimneys build up with creosote that can increase the chances of a chimney fire. And let’s not forget the wood that needs to be cut, stacked, and retrieved from outside which can be inconvenient in bad climate weather.

On the other hand, gas logs are always ready to burn and require minimal maintenance, making them an excellent option!

Environmentally Friendly

A set of gas logs in a gas fireplace are considered eco-friendly and burn much cleaner than wood.

Smoke from wood fireplaces introduces particulates into the atmosphere. The smoke and soot can be a major contributor to air pollution, which can be especially detrimental if anyone in your home has challenging breathing conditions.

Safety Tips for Gas Logs

  • Gas logs are made for use in wood-burning fireplaces with operative chimneys, or in approved pre-fabricated fireboxes. Be sure that when deciding on a set of gas logs, you’ve ensured that your fireplace is approved for them.
  • Always ensure that your carbon monoxide detectors are working accurately. Mark your calendars and test your detectors twice a year to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • If the fireplace has glass doors, never burn gas logs when the doors are closed. Doing so can lead to a build-up of heat behind the doors and cause a catastrophe.

We hope this helps! For more information check out our other posts!
