Vented Gas Logs

In many cases, yes. Vented gas logs usually allow taller, more open flames because they operate with the chimney or flue open. Vent-free logs are designed for efficient supplemental heat, while vented logs are most often chosen for realism and ambiance.

Yes. Vented gas logs require the fireplace damper to remain open during operation so combustion gases can vent through the chimney. Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for your specific gas log and burner system.

Vented gas logs do produce radiant warmth, especially from ceramic logs that absorb and release heat. However, because the damper remains open, much of the heat exits through the chimney. Choose vented logs primarily for appearance, not maximum heating efficiency.

The correct size depends on the inside dimensions of your fireplace, including front width, rear width, depth, and height. Do not choose based only on the size of old logs. Compare your measurements to the manufacturer’s minimum fireplace requirements.

No. Vented gas logs require an approved fireplace with proper venting. They are not made for direct vent fireplaces or fireplaces that cannot safely vent combustion byproducts. Confirm fireplace compatibility before ordering.

Manual safety pilot is a straightforward option, while remote systems add convenience. Some configurations allow simple on/off remote control, while others allow variable flame adjustment. The best option depends on your fireplace setup, fuel type, and how you want to use the fire.

Sometimes. If your existing burner is compatible with the new gas log set, you may be able to replace only the logs. However, for the best appearance, performance, and long-term reliability, replacing the burner and gas logs together is often recommended. If you're unsure whether your current burner is compatible, our team can help you determine the best option before you order.
